As with the Reginalds upthread, there are three Genes I can tell apart, but sometimes forget which name belongs to whom: A kid actor of the '30 - '40s, he remained onscreen through the '50s, but by the '60s had moved into TV direction and production, for which he's best known by such shows as M*A*S*H and Lou Grant (he's still with us, and is due to turn 96 in a few weeks). Gene Raymond (pictured with real-life spouse Jeanette MacDonald). Usually second string to leading men like Clark Gable, Franchot Tone or Robert Montgomery in films like Red Dust, Sadie McKee and Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Raymond became a venerable TV presence from the '50s through the '70s. Gene Nelson was a reliable song and dance man in WB films of the '50s with the likes of Doris Day and Virginia Mayo, moving into television direction in the '60s, while remaining before the TV cameras into the '80s. Why I should get these three names mixed, I don't know; I never have any trouble with Kelly, Lockhart or Hackman.
