This isn't the position to take. One day another CBM will win, a non MCU movie, maybe even a DC movie. And on that day I want everyone to be happy about it without resorting to rationalizations as to why it was nominated even though it wasn't a good movie.
This is a good day for ALL of us, because it shows that the Academy is finally willing to include the big pop culture type movies we love. After all who can argue that Superman the Movie, The Dark Knight, and maybe even The Avengers could have also been nominated in their respective years?
Did Disney buy this nomination? There's some hints that might have been the case. But even if that were the case that doesn't change the fact that it turns into a good thing for those us who want to see this type of movie represented in the Oscars. Its an inroad.
It's a tually a bad day. Becuse the Academy sent a message to all CBM studios that the only way you can get noninated for Best Picture is if you shamelessly and execusively use the race. Card throughout the movie. Black Panther's wins for Costumes, Production Design, and Score are well deserved. Also, Spider-Verse won Best Animated Feature. True comic book fans should be happy about the Oscar's results.
