I suppose I need to see The Thing.
Have you seen The Thing from Another World (1951) ?
They make a great Double Feature. I have always loved the '51 but actively hated the '82.
No introduction to the characters (they all looked pretty much alike), lots of blow-em-up action and gore but no reason to care for what happened to anyone as individuals.
