X-Men tries for that (especially when Jackman laughs at their silly superhero names) but doesn’t succeed. It plays everything too over-the-top and dramatic, and no one except Jackman talks like a real person. It’s hard to care about these people because we can’t connect with them—something that’s definitely necessary for the X-Men.
One of the best things about the MCU is, contra Formersamhmd, its lack of “wondrousness.” The creators believe in their characters and make them seem like real people. Though it’s primarily comedic and Nolan’s trilogy primarily serious, the two are linked by their naturalism. The X-Men series might well have had that (everyone says Logan is both naturalistic and realistic); it’s just that the two I’ve seen do not.

Thats what you will feel if youre only watching Xmen fully now, after the barrage of watered down superhero hero movies that make light of everything in the last 10 years. Watch Dark Knight after youve seen Gotg 1 and 2 backto back and youll come to the same conclusion, everything is too OTT and dramatic. Well thats what makes Xmen better, the subject matter is not trivial. You cant have guys like Stark and Quill taking a happy go lucky approach in that universe. Stark continues to act like a manbaby because he keeps getting away with his mistakes - there are minimal stakes. You think Stark would be playing the same shtick if loved ones like Pepper or Rhodey died as a result of his consequences. And if you cannot connect to characters like Rogue, Iceman, Wolverine, Nightcrawler, Pyro on a deeper level, rather than just a lavish exterior personality...then thats not the movies fault. What they dont tell enough jokes?
MCU characters are not necessarily more naturalistic, they are just trying too hard to look and sound cool when in fact they end up looking like manchildren. Captain America is the most naturlistic character, and he would fit in like a hand in a glove within the Xmen universe.
