I'm in the camp of killing demons being a good thing.
However, I hate most horror movies for reasons beyond religion.
The most important one is I don't want to spend the night thinking said demon is going to jump out of the closet and stab my eyes out.
I think you have to evaluate their "redeeming social values" on a case by case basis.
