I like Ryan O'Neal too in the role. You should check out Kanal too. I actually got to see it because I saw a clip of Martin Scorsese raving about it, glad I did.
Have you seen the Duelists? Ridley Scott's first movie. I did. I liked it.
It is kind of similar to Barry Lyndon, in a way.
