That's similar to my style. If I were ever to spank my kids, they knew exactly what the reason would be not only because I would tell them at that moment but there was already a [small but serious] list of things that warranted a spanking. It worked, but it's a very small window from which spankings can be effective. Of course, if I had a little kid now, spankings wouldn't even be an option at all. Discipline gets more lax every decade or so. Pretty soon, we will start paying kids when they do something wrong. I recently learned of a very effective punishment. My sister took my teenage niece's portable device away for a week. On the second day the girl was begging for it back. There was a clear change in attitude after that week. That's what I do too. I even take stuff they paid for.
That said, aside from normal teenage angst, my kids are pretty well behaved. About the only time they get in trouble now is for lying.
Spankings on teenagers would never work...Right up there with spanking babies and toddlers.
