I recently learned of a very effective punishment. My sister took my teenage niece's portable device away for a week. On the second day the girl was begging for it back. There was a clear change in attitude after that week. That's what I do too. I even take stuff they paid for.
That said, aside from normal teenage angst, my kids are pretty well behaved. About the only time they get in trouble now is for lying.
Spankings on teenagers would never work...Right up there with spanking babies and toddlers.
My dad had a friend apparently or someone he just knows that had a teen daughter that was uncontrollable so her husband tried to take action in disciplining her.. the girl ended up accusing him of sexual assault and is in jail now for I think about 6 months.. we were talking about whether it was even true or not or if the girl just made it up since she was already a bad kid anyway... idk I just think physical discipline just doesn't work nowadays.. Ive seen girls put up videos on youtube of their dads beating them up and get them in trouble for being abusive. My dad was never like how those kids' parents were in the videos though.. but my dad also stopped spanking me when I was 7 or 8.. those girls looked like they were at least 12. it just seems a lot more inappropriate when the kid is older to spank them.... i didnt have a phone until i was 14.. but taking away certain privileges seems more effective. I rarely got in trouble as a teen even though I did bad stuff..(my parents sort of gave up on me and sent me to boarding school instead) but as a kid I mainly just got time outs
