I steered clear of Gomer Pyle for years (decades, more likely), have watched it a few times on MeTV of late, and it's not half-bad. Gomer's goofiness doesn't overwhelm it nearly so much as I thought it would. Jim Nabors was a likable guy, and he had a great singing voice. For my money, Frank Sutton was the best thing about Gomer Pyle. The guy had major acting chops, actually used them on the show.
