I think it would have been pretty normal to let him know what was going on just before shit went down. Having said that, common sense would also dictate that Dr. Strange would have found some way to let Fury know that Thanos had the full house and was on his way to cash in. So maybe Fury not knowing anything was all part of the timeline Strange chose??!! That seems the answer to all potential plot holes at this point.

First, you're assuming that any of the Avengers still kept in contact with Fury. Second, if we followed your suggestion then the only thing Fury would have know was that there was an alien force about to battle Wakanda. That doesn't sound like a panic-inducing emergency to me, especially not if the combined forces of Wakanda and the Avengers are there to fight it.

Third, Dr. Strange and Fury are not buddies. Don't personally know each other as far as we're concerned. Why would Dr. Strange call him and how exactly would he call him?
