the behind the scenes stories - i.e. the business aspect of it always fascinated me.
could get 'dirty' at times - i.e. during the Monday night wars with entertainers jumping ship to the other competition.
find a lot of it tragic - which fascinates me in a way (love tragic human interest stories) - like the movie 'The Wrestler' - the Scott Hall, Jake Roberts, Kamalas of the world, the tragic deaths of others - i.e. the Von Erichs, Rude, Hennig - too many to mention.
always loved the classic good guy vs. bad guy angle too - love youtubing old clips - and when that 'good guy' swerves heel - like Andre to go against Hogan - or Hogan cutting a lethal promo attacking the fans (the 2nd part of that famous promo wasn't scripted and came from Hogans heart apparently when he tells the fans they can stick it after being booed as a 'good guy' for the previous couple of years - i.e. fans were just sick of him. found the whole cycle of events - i.e. he's brought into WCW as a good guy and the fans can't stand him rather fascinating and then him swerving heel eventually.
wrestling fake? absolutely. scripted? absolutely - however the 'realness' which creeped it's way in at times just like any business is kind of what fascinated me (I don't watch today's product)
other's have made the link/connection to a soap opera - which I agree with to an extent - I look at it more like a carnival - traveling 'Carnies' and 'lifers' who care about the business.
'realness creeps into wrestling' - 4:50 of this clip Hogan starts 'shooting' about the way he's been treated by the fans over the last 2 years. Granted this heel turn was scripted and was an angle by WCW; however Hogan just started shooting and flying from the hip at 4:50 - vent up frustration of being treated like garbage by the fans:
