They arent willing to innovate or do something completely out of trend to their usual formula. Its reflects worse on audiences than the studios really, when geek fandoms are overpraising movies like Antman/Captain Marvel and giving them 9s and 10/10s and watching 4-5 times repeat, studio will keep churning out the same ordinary product over and over until box office starts to wine
