Hopefully not gore just for the sake of gore as I hate that shit, but if it's gory for the story more the glory...ok im going to stop doing that now.
But this goes to what I said as well Todd's insistence on the next adaptation being more like the 90's animated show and less the movie is whats kept the IP out of the mainstream for 20 years, despite ther fact Todd has supposedly had a series written, recorded, animated, cast and voiced, that he is simply weeding out offers from multiple networks for decades now depending on just which interview you read.
Hopefully the film will be great but also some of the things he has said about it in the past has cast doubts, then theres the whole is Spawn a title that still works today? I am crossing my fingers as I have liked Spawn anytime I saw or read anything with the character, plus if this works then it's just going to open the door to more independent ip's getting a similar smaller budget but still big production and role out, which even if I don't like them all I want just so people like you Deb who may have those options because *bad Italian accent* the variety it is the spice of life.
But hey no one thought any sort of Venom movie would work these days and that damn movie made serious bank, which I attribute to simply the comedy of Venom calling Eddie a pussy, if the sword fight guy in Batman 89 is to thank for atleast $100m of that films box office, then Tom Hardy calling himself a pussy through a voice synthesizer is atleast to thank for minimum $250m imo
.
I think there is definitely a mainstream audience for movies like ‘Spawn’ and you only need to take a look at how popular the Horror genre is now and if you can bring that together with a superhero film it could be one of the biggest comic book movies of the decade being a Horror Superhero movie that unites fans of both superheroes and Horror movies. I am hoping the new movie turns out to be good ‘cause Spawn is one of the Top 10 biggest selling superheroes of all time and the character and most of all fans deserve a movie that does Spawn justice which the last movie didn’t do. There are a lot of things riding on the success of this movie and they have already said if it makes over 100 million they plan to bring more Image Comics series to the big screen but if Spawn is successful it will be the very first time the creator of a comic book series their series into their own hands and made it succeed on the screen.
The Horror Superhero movie I am most looking forward to is ‘Razor’ though and Emma Dumont gave another update about the movie a few days ago and Emma said she is doing all her own stunts and is learning Krav Maga and is in the gym three to four hours a day ‘cause the Director, Rob Cohen wants her to be able to fight for her life for real and it is great to see them taking this seriously ‘cause Razor is a bad ass fighter and needs to be played by a person who can fight. I will post the interview about it below so you can read more of it but I recall when I first read a ‘Razor’ comic in the early 90s it was nothing like anything I had read before with a female superhero and was very unique and with some exceptions many female superheroes in the 80s were written to be bland and 2Dish and didn’t have personality and the 90s saw that change with ‘Razor’ spinning off many other female lead series.
Razor was dark, edgy and aggressive, she swore, she had sex with men and women, she not only kills her villains she slices their heads off, their penises off and cuts their insides out with blood and guts going everywhere and she takes pleasure in killing them covering herself in their blood. While Razor has Horror villains like vampires and werewolves and become a vampire herself for a while she does not have larger than life villains and most of her villains are rapists, pedophiles, domestic abusers, serial killers and psychopaths and this is going to be like nothing we have seen in comic book movies to date and be very, very violent and brutal and some heads are gonna roll.

The Gifted Star Emma Dumont Talks Taking On a Very Different Superhero in Razor
Razor is something I am so excited about; this character is like someone I have never played before. She is a superhero but she’s not super. She has no gifts or abilities, so for me it’s really cool to play that.

What some people don’t know about Dumont is that she’s a trained ballerina and there are few women more badass in the world than ballerinas. Dumont explained that she is doing her own stunts in Razor and explained what she finds some compelling about Razor aka Nicole Mitchell.
I’m going to be doing all my own stunts. The director, Rob Cohen, said he basically wants me to be able to fight for my own life for real. So I’m learning Krav Maga and I’m in the gym three-four hours per day. It’s very physically demanding and I’m going to learn a lot of great new skills.
As far as the character goes, I think this character is so important right now because she has a very human view of things. She escapes from a mental institution when she is 18 or 19. She doesn’t have the influences of the judiciary system, or law enforcement, or rules, or even societal pressures or expectations.
So when she sees someone doing something wrong, she doesn’t see it as a felony or misdemeanor, she just sees wrong. If you’re a bad guy she’ll just kill you so you don’t hurt any more people. She doesn’t know checks or balances. She’s an antihero.
Finally, Dumont was asked how a character like Razor could be a role model for young women since that is considered extremely important when it comes to making female leading superhero movies. Dumont likes the fact that Razor is a young woman who gets to be badass when normally women have to be older to be badass.
She’s almost childlike, but at the same time she’s a strong badass woman and she ends up leading a group of renegade vigilante all women fighters, rough chicks who are fighting for their lives. I think that’s what people, and especially young girls, need to see right now.
Another thing I love about the script is that there is a love story, but that’s not the predominant arc of this character. So many 18-19 year old women characters are in rom-coms. You never see really badass young women in that age range.
For a female action character, it’s great to play someone that has so many conflicting ideas and at the same time such strong beliefs, and she does things that maybe you don’t agree with in real life. She does right by doing wrong. She thinks that is what is necessary to preserve society, and I think that’s noble.

At the moment there aren’t details about when Razor is making its way to the big screen but if Dumont is training then we can likely expect production to start soon. The movie will be directed by Rob Cohen who has worked on the xXx movies as both a director and executive producer.
With Razor as you described it I assume their expectations are going to be considerably lower than Spawns, such as $100m isn't going to be the benchmark they want to hit, $100m-150m should be considered an outrageous success for the film, and they may need to tune a lot of the elements down, as again I don't know how well cutting off dicks, bathing in blood or pedo and rapists is really going to sell to a paying audience.
As for Todd I think the thing is you just don't know, the guys been flapping his lips and clearly been lying through his teeth for decades now, I hope the film is great but lets not kid ourselves, just because Blumhouse is involved wont make it good, they produce bad films as well, they just happen to make a lot of successful films due to the low budget.
But if Spawn is a success I hope that opens up the industries eyes so they actually include the creator or atleast the creatives behind the current or most popular modern runs of those characters in the story making process.
