1. is done in order to hopefuly stop the woman from making a scene - in public fancy setting they are less inclined to do so. Its a jerk move but it is done.
2. We knock in our place before entering another room so very little locking going on, but I see your point and agree, its overused.
3. this I Never saw in Europe and was alwaya wondering “wtf” when watching Seinfeld or Friends. Then I moved to the US where I do see it here and there and especially outside of NYC I did see it much more (and did it occasionaly myself in my house).
4. I see this all over! If I look outside my window in the evening barely anybody has blinds on. Its crazy. Again in europe this would be unthinkable but in the US I see it a lot.
So I guess it depends where you live?
