what do you mean helped pave the way for current "trend" of movies? if you are talking about the current Superhero craze then you are far off while Hollywood didn't start pumping out Superhero flicks pre-Iron Man. the current Superhero Movie craze was paved in the late 90s and early 00s when films like "Blade" "X-Men" and "Sam Raimis Spider Man Trilogy" had success at the Box Office and made Hollywood realize there was life outside of "Batman & Superman"
