Nice little single....off Drew Hutchinson, a journeyman destined for AAA this year. What's the plan for him? Looks like he's starting the year as the DH. Over/under on how long before he gets benched? why not spike his drink get him 'busted' for roids and get his contract voided? That's not a guarantee like it is in the NFL. He could be suspended by the league, but it wouldn't automatically void his contract, unless he had that specific clause in his contract. Sometimes, not often, athletes have what are commonly referred to as "granny clauses" in their contract, which is when the person engages in conduct that a reasonable person would deem to be inappropriate and unbecoming of said person and/or his organization (I'm paraphrasing and simplifying), then that organization can terminate the contract for Cause. It's very common in licensing deals so if, let's say, Davis had a Nike deal and he got busted for steroids, Nike would have easy contractual grounds to terminate the deal. It's not as common in the underlying player contract, but it does happen, but even if it's there, teams may not always be willing to pull the trigger on that type of clause for one reason or another. I like the outside the box thinking though!!
