I found B.B. mostly average early on. It was good...but not the best show on tv. Right about season 4 is when I think it hit its stride for me. Probably due to a combination of things but mostly Jesse changing as a character ( being less annoying), Mike Ehrmentraut, and Walter really turning the dials up on his villainy.
