I think what makes me a 'sports entertainment / wrasslin' fan to this day is...
I'm completely heart broken at the WrestleMania card this year as ridiculous and pathetic as that may sound to the masses.
Wrestling was always entertainment to me. Good vs. Evil. Larger than life characters.
'Mania to me was appearances by the entertainment stars too - Ali, Liberace, The Fridge, Mike Tyson, Cindi Lauper, wasn't there an abundance of NFL players in a Battle Royal in 'Mania II? Lawrence Taylor in the main event vs. Bam Bam.
It's a show - an extravaganza. Once a year - the Super Bowl of sports entertainment.
Now?
We've got chick matches as main events - and the fans today complain who's main eventing these chick matches - i.e. one chick got screwed over and another chick deserves a chance.
And it's 5'8 150 lbs guys with no personality or no mic skills. No presence.
To me 85% of wrestling was the promo and mic work - the presence - the Iron Sheiks, Paul Orndorffs, Hulk Hogans, the cartoon characters of Demolition, The Bushwhackers....
It's gone. All Gone.
We've got a chick main event and hardcore emo super hero fanboy dorks are going nuts Ric Flairs kid is in the main event and Ronda Rousey is in the main event.
Sad days folks.
