A guy's batting average, by itself, is not the end-all be-all of whether he was good or not. Unless you’re Chris Davis. Right, but the rest of his numbers are just as disgusting. You can hit .250 and have a good year. You can hit .300 and be less effective. If you hit .250 but slug .500 and get on base at almost a 40% clip, then your offensive output is worth more than, say, a guy like Jeff Keppinger who would hit .300 but barely get on base at a higher clip than that and had warning track power in Coors Field. Context, context, context.
