He actually did something that is very valuable yesterday.
He drew an intentional walk to load the bases - what happened next?
Hoskins hit a Grand Slam.
This reminds of me of years ago with Howard / Werth (granted Howard was clean up and Werth in the 5 hole) - did you really want to intentionally walk Howard to get to Werth (who was perfect protecting Howard)? That's was rolling the dice a bit circa 2008 - even though Howard was a monster back then - Werth was no slouch and proved to be incredibly valuable (i.e. see his next contract with the Nats).
Howard got more pitches because Werth proved to be dangerous at the plate.
If the Phils can get the #1 or #2 man (or both) on base- I think that #3, #4, #5 lineup of Harper, Hoskins, Realmuto is going to cause nightmares - i.e. knock in a lot of runs.
Has Harper always hit in the #3 hole? Any Nats fans here? I was expecting him to hit cleanup - but after yesterday with what Hoskins did - I'm not complaining one bit.
And I'm sure Kappy is going to juggle these lineups at bit at times depending on pitching matchups, who's hot, who's slumping, etc.
