I cant disagree with you more strongly. And I don't know anyone who does not like this film. Its a minor classic.
As to your point of whether or not Gary's going to do it... that's not the point. We KNOW he's going to do it. The point is the dread that he feels at being pulled back into the line of danger. This is a movie about a guy who'd successfully gotten OUT. Crime movies like this are almost always about guys who are trying to get out, "one last score and we'll be set". This guy succeeded and that's all being put in danger.
