A lot of past movies have glamorized smoking, but not as much so these days as far as I know. This link strongly disagrees. I don't know about this though. I see more vaping these days honestly. EDIT: **** me hang on a second
Any group with the word "truth" in its name is suspect because in my experience it usually falls short. 86% sounds pretty bad, huh? First the article narrows down the field to only Oscar nominees. Then it's only the ones in major categories. So we're talking about maybe a couple of dozen films. And that's what's used to measure tobacco depiction in films? I'm sure there are hundreds of films made each year with no tobacco in them at all. But adding them into the study would bring that 86% down to a much lower number which wouldn't be suitable for the so-called "Truth Initiative's" purpose.
So ck might be correct because he's probably counting lots of films that weren't nominated. I also think tobacco use in films has shrunk overall.
Getting people to quit smoking is a noble effort, but I would rather these anti-smoking groups be honest about it.
