I just got done listening to "Twelve Thirty", by The Mamas and Papas, and every time I do listen to I think of Sharon Tate and it makes me sad and it chills me to the bone. I have always liked Roman Polanski, never thought he was a bad person, not by a long shot, and I have brought the topic up before, though never perhaps in such a direct way. I have read posts here that have judged and demonized RP and I have never been able to wrap my head around such rabid judgment and unforgiving attitude. And while RP seems to trigger a lot of people, much of the time I think they were unmoved by the tragedy of Sharon Tate. There is something to that. Hence, the poll...
Anyway, I voted for Susan Denise Atkins because she was the one who actually killed Sharon, and she has always scared the hell out of me. I get your point Mr. Dirty, even though it can appear a bit of a an odd comparison due to the nature of Manson and his minions crimes and what Polanski gets defiled for. Most people just won't want to make the connection Polanski had to the Manson\Tate murders, because I think it is just way too confronting. They will find another opening because it is easier to contemplate\deal with Polanski's own behavior in the late 70's and play lynch mob, even if many of them appear misinformed and have their own displaced aggression issues.
I do not think Polanski was a bad\rotten person either and what he had experienced in his life leading up to his arrest for having sex with an experienced and scheming minor, gets made out to be the worst thing someone could do. In due respect, it ultimately pales in comparison as to what his own psyche would have endured leading up to that incident. Polanski's life was full of nuance and complexity and it doesn't make any sense, or is even absurd and "irrational" to place objectivity, or simpleminded black and white notions onto what he is most remembered for. Not to mention the US justice system also had its own demons regarding how Polanski was dealt with.
Michael Jackson has been 10yrs dead and there are people that still want to hurt and kill him. That says so much more about them and their own personal anger issues and projections. If Polanski was tortured and killed instead of fleeing the US, they would still be hating on him.
