Convenience number 1. Scarcity is another. Not interested in new things myself, but a lot of old stuff isn't easy to get. The best download sites are the ones devoted to archiving old things that even the parent companies have no interest in. Now that Disney owns Fox there's a good chance most of the older Fox stuff will never be released in HD so any preservation of things is good. Another thing is that with many such things, people wouldn't bother paying for them anyway. Easier if companies just add a $5 charge to internet and leave it at that. It more than adequately covers any alleged losses. I agree that it's a shame a lot of older stuff is lost. There are a bunch of classic movies I am patiently waiting to come to blu ray. Dont you worry about potentially getting caught though? As I said, I'd be super paranoid about that.
