Why do people download things illegally?

Years ago, I would sometimes download an album so I could properly evaluate it and make an intelligent buying decision.
Thankfully almost everything is now on YouTube. I can easily make an intelligent buying decision and the artist gets paid for the streaming - it's a win win.
