I've seen a lot of those films (no I haven't seen The Belle of New York either), and I think I like Easter Parade the most of all of them.
I believe that's the movie that Gene Kelly was cast to star, was well into rehearsals of the Drum Crazy number in the toy store, when he broke his ankle playing volleyball at home. Kelly was obviously out, and he recommended Astaire take over in the starring role.
