The original Hellboy movies - Thoughts?

Both are fun light-hearted action romps. Before superhero and genre properties went all "grim & gritty", it was nice to have a pair of superhero adventures that were simply about creating a fantasy universe and having fun with it. 

Ron Perlman is also great as the title character. He gets the dry humor of the character and also makes you care about him. I can't think of anyone else playing it as well as he did. Guillermo Del Toro also did a good job in balancing the action, horror, humor and fantasy elements throughout.

A damn shame we never got a third installment. They did make a couple of animated Hellboy films in between films 1&2 and feature the voice talents of Ron Perlman, Selma Blair and John Hurt, so give these a look if you're a fan of the Perlman/Del Toro films.
