Schnepp's review wasn't "middling," it was balanced. He found one problematic aspect of the movie and immediately followed up with praise and a demand for a sequel. It's this kind of misinterpretation that starts flames.

Harloff is a bit tone-deaf as a critic so I wouldn't take his review to heart even if it were stellar.SaveSave
