I'm surprised that some of the detractors in this thread aren't using the out and out negative early reactions to bolster their case. There are quite a few notes from reviewers that are a lot more critical than Jon Schnepp's.

Sophomore outings have been the real problem for the MCU in my view (with the notable exception of Winter Soldier). Bigger than villains, tone or anything else haters want to play up in the press. I'm hoping GotG V.2 can break that trend. Nothing is as exciting as the beginning or the ending of a franchise. The middle tends to be mediocre by definition (with few exceptions). It's the middle - the character(s) are just chugging along with the sophomore blues.

Marvel should consider compressing their footprint down to two-part films in some cases if you ask me.
