I just returned from Safeway, where I saw something that I had never seen/noticed, before. In the "condiment" section, there are warnings that red, and Balsamic vinegar may contain lead ... and, lead can have an effect on the reproduction system, and cause birth defects. (?!?!?!)
I have been buying vinegar, of virtually every kind, for decades. This is the first time that I've ever seen that. I "Googled" (see below). This says that the levels of lead would probably be low, and probably come through absorption in the soil. Also, the appearance of the warnings are probably the result of a California law suit, from several years ago.
None of my red, or Balsamic vinegar bottles carry any kind of warning. Although, one is in Italian, so I can't be absolutely sure. I have a new bottle of Star (brand) red-wine vinegar, which is common - and, I think American. It has no such message. Has anyone heard, or seen this? www.quickanddirtytips.com/health-fitness/healthy-eating/ask-diva-does-balsamic-vinegar-contain-lead
