I picked Simmons. Even though he is a liability as a shooter, he is a team player, tries to run the offense, gets everyone involved. He has an odd looking shot, I'm not sure it will ever be consistently good. His rap at LSU was he had no dog in him.
It's infuriating as a Sixers fan - because watching him play Game #3 vs. the Nets and Game #6 vs. Toronto - when he wants to take over - he can take over.
When he wants to be an 'Alpha'? He's the best player on the court.
I hope the Sixers consider picking up a true PG (wonder if Jrue can be had since AD will be gone) and sticking Simmons at the '4' depending on matchups next season.
It doesn't mean he has to give up ball handling responsibilities all game - he's a magician in the open court - but when the game slows down in the halfcourt - thats when 'right now' (still young) he's a liability and you can use a guy like Jrue to run the show. They've been giving that responsibility to Butler in the 4th and crunch time all year since the game slows down and Simmons can be a turnover machine. (0 turnovers game 6 which was jaw droppingly awesome). You can also max Butler and stick him in this role if you see him staying. The final 2 years on the 5 year may be worthless as he's getting older - and some question if he'll take a 5 year deal from the Sixers maxxed over a 4 year elsewhere if he wants to move on.....
But Simmons is young. 22. Hoping this summer he develops not a outside shot but just a midrange jumper - and continues to work on his outside shot.
Hoping Brand isn't so bold this offseason he deals him.
It just gets maddening watching a kid with so much potential who carries himself like Kobe disappear at times for long stretches......
