According to a shit ton of people Pattinson is an incredible actor, Twilight he apparently knew was garbage and isn't a fair reflection on his talent, lots of these smaller roles he took after those films he's shined in, so I don't have an issue with it, not like it's new for the guy donning the cowl to be a controversial choice, people hated Keaton & Affleck's casting, not sure about Bale, Kilmer & Clooney however. I don't remember seeing or hearing any criticism over the casting of Val Kilmer for 'Batman Forever' apart from the Michael Keaton fans who were disappointed he wasn't coming back for the movie but there were a lot of people who were unsure of Christian Bale when it was announced he was going to play Batman 'cause his most well-known roll at the time was playing a psychotic murderer, Patrick Bateman in the movie adaption of Bret Easton Ellis's 'American Psycho' and there were people saying they couldn't unsee him from that role and I was not a fan of 'The Dark Knight Trilogy' as you know but I think he was able to overcome that for many people.
