I've read a lot about the Appalachian Trail, bought hiking boots at one of the camping stores and hiked the entire (width of the) Appalachian Trail, but never really hoped to thru-hike it; I'm a bit old for that. But seeing this story really broke my heart.
A man that had already been through so much, was making a comeback, and was killed defending others on the Trail.
May he rest in peace.
