Maybe they just do whatever they want with them for no reason. They're like animals after all. Though it was poetic justice to make Burke a host since that is what he tried to do to Rip and Newt and he deserves to suffer a bit more than to get a quick death. Here it is in a deleted scene, which shouldn't have been: As much as I like the poetic justice of liberal Carter Burke, this scene is not very well acted by Reiser. A similar scene in the director's cut of Alien was much better done by Scott and Skerritt.
