You mentioned Tucker Carlson so I looked him up and here was one article I found.

It said something very interesting in the depth of its shock and dismay of the outrage and fear mongering about illegal immigrants.
Meanwhile, a new study from the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) given exclusively to "Tucker Carlson Tonight" shows the scale on which the United States is being plundered. Every year, FAIR found foreign-born workers send about $150 billion in remittances to their friends and family overseas. That's more than the GDP of 18 American states.

Illegal aliens alone are emitting $28 billion a year. That's $28 billion leaving this country, going abroad every year from people who don't even have the legal right to work here in the first place. But they are, and they are benefiting, of course, from all the extras -- free healthcare, free education, subsidized housing, food stamps, and who knows what else. The remittances are not taxed. In the case of illegal immigrants working under the table, their original earnings have never been taxed, either.

My heart bleeds for the wealthy smug Americans who lose all this money back to impoverished countries and communities without having the satisfaction and discretionary experience, of giving it as 'aid'!
We all look at the disparity of wealth between poor and rich countries and look for ways to even out the circumstances of the starving needy war torn and desperate, and here it is happening under USA's very nose.
I like it. ( proviso...I am not saying that illegal activities should not be punished and prevented, however for a socialist like me there is a certain poetic justice to it....if you don't give it to them, they will come and take it. Were there not such a disparity of wealth and circumstances between North and South America, there would not be a problem with immigrants allegedly swamping your country)
For the cost of a wall you could attempt to sort out the immigration policy, make it more equitable. enforce the legislation you already have and legally benefit from a willing workforce you would provide increase in taxation and market.
