BP was nominated because of politics. Moonlight won because of politics or do you legitimately think it was the best movie of 2016 or whenever it won? I tried watching it and was fucking boring as hell. I turned it off halfway through. When's the last time you heard anyone even mention Moonlight? BP was an average superhero movie. I thought Blade was better personally and I don't recall anyone making Blade's race an issue when it was such a big hit back in the day.
Indeed, and that's because society has changed for the worse. Back then, nobody batted an eye over Blade's race. The film itself was just seen as an enjoyable film and that's it. There was none of this nonsense of "It features a black superhero and if you don't support it, then you're a racist!!!". Black Panther was a silly, juvenile film. It had no business being up for Best Picture. By contrast, intelligent films such as Batman Begins and The Dark Knight did NOT get nominated for Best Picture. The very fact that the Academy was considering instituting a new category called Best Popular Film for this year's Oscars clearly shows that they just wanted to throw Black Panther a bone. Blade was a really good movie but in 2018 everyone was claiming BP was the first black mainstream super hero movie.
