This reminds me of how at one point Don Bluths Land Before Time and Disney's Dinosaur were originally supposed to have the dinosaurs not speak. I the The Good Dinosaur might have been planned like that at one point too. Of course in all cases the film makers or studios chickened out and the dinos spoke. Heaven forbid someone try to actually get creative and try their hands at actual visual art. All that said, a Godzilla film without people would feel weird, large cities being destroyed is part of the appeal. Dinosaur (2000) was marketed like that. I remember being surprised the dinos talked in the theater. Honestly would have been a better movie if they didn't.
