I think the champion must be Max Von Sydow. Despite his crippling atheism he was still able to play Christ in "The Greatest Story Ever Told", the Devil in "Needful Things", the title role in "The Exorcist", an angel in "What Dreams May Come", and Pope Clement VII in "Una vita scellerata".
Next up: Childless actors who have played parents, followed by actors who were never in the army but played soldiers. Can you elaborate on referring to him as having crippling atheism? I perused his IMDB page and his wiki page
It seems he's had a long fairly active career even during the time he was an atheist IF his statement means he started believing there was a god later on.
Except for his divorce, I can't find any distraction in his private life. I might have missed something.
