I thought Kuato (the main guy and the stomach guy) were supposed to be one and the same — he was a mutant.

Then why did he need to open his shirt to let the little guy talk? He could have just done it all himself. I always thought of Kuato more as a parasite that lived in the other guy, and the other guy tolerated it because Kuato was a powerful leader and he needed the legs.
