what our Irn Bru love affair tells us about modern Scotland

I'd like to know what it tastes like. I've read it tastes like bubble gum, cough syrup, oranges, Cactus Cooler which is orange-pineapple, horribly sweet, vile, banana and bubble gum combo, rust - that's enough for now. 
Not only is Irn-Bru the top-selling soft drink in Scotland but it's the 3rd best-selling in the UK. McDonald's in Scotland got a good slagging when it first opened there for not offering the drink on the menu and Barack Obama was laughed at and scorned in turn when he visited Scotland and was pictured drinking the sugar-free version.
So what gives? Later, or tomorrow, I will buy a can of it from the shop and find out what it's really like.
