The humor in the 67 version is very much the humor of Cook and Moore in their prime--one minute almost esoteric, the next almost unbelievably juvenile--and it works to help make the film a sort of document of their particular comedic teamwork and style. The remake is more in the vein of formulaic Hollywood comedy, with nothing quirky about it, no touch of the personalities of the players involved. For that reason, although the 2000 version may have had the rough edges sanded off, I prefer the original precisely because it reflects the offbeat and specific quality of the two stars and their chemistry as a comic duo.
