Id say Bombay making it in the minors as far as he did and given expectations of even going pro at his age is pretty damn ridiculous. Especially for a kid that in all likelihood hadn't played hockey since he was like 12. He was in his early 30s at least in the movie. Him getting hurt shouldve been the only expectation.
