That isn’t really the opposite of what I said. Most white heroes learn something from the natives they save but their knowledge of the natives enemies give them a distinct advantage. In Avatar they changed it up a bit because he wasn’t really the one who saved the day. it was the planet although he may have been so awesome that he was the one to inspire the planet. Plus he was saved by the damsel in distress...twice. Still it did take him to motivate the masses to fight. But they helped each other. He needed to learn from them. Then he knew the white man/Marine weaknesses and strengths. So he gave them the Intel and thus knowledge/courage to fight. It was a team effort. That’s the way it always is. However, the star of the film will always do something more. It’s what differentiates him. Again I think Avatar is great at circumventing as best they can the tropes of a typical fish out of water trope for these kinds of movies. But the influence was not equal. Jake clearly influence them more when it mattered. Yes he learned their culture and ways and won their respect, but it was his ways, his bravery, and his knowledge of the enemy that emboldened them to fight.
