Yeah it's a lame gimmick, but a gimmick nonetheless. It's inevitable, really. There are only so many stories you can tell with the same characters for 80 years, eventually you start scraping the bottom of the barrel with these shock value plot lines. I just feel bad for kids who may be just getting into comics. This is their introduction to Captain America?
I read comics as a kid, and I still pick up the occasional tpb to see what's going on in the MCU. I can't imagine how adults read this stuff on a regular basis because at best it's repetitive and at worst it's...this.
But again, the most unfortunate part to me is the idea that some kid is reading his first Cap book and this is what he finds.
