Does this have anything to do with "The Devils"? That was a weird, intense, extremely unpleasant movie. I don't like Ken Russell movies, from what I have seen. Ken Russell was a genuine artist, in spite of what many claim to be his excesses. That was his auteur's trademark. The Devils is perhaps his most controversial and disturbing film and was excised of a controversial sequence, The Rape Of Christ, due to the controlling and narrow-minded, puritanical and pious attitudes. I think the clip may have found its way onto you-tube. The film is perhaps one of his best and it is a tough watch, but he gets right to the heart and soul of the absolute hypocrisy, corruption and frenzied lunacy of the church and religion. Redgrave and Reed are both at the top of their game as well.
I would love a blu-ray box set of all his 70's and early 80's films. I feel Crimes Of Passion - 84', was his last best film. It was a bit too out-of-the-box and lurid for many though. Many of his films are still very potent today. In the late 80's, I didn't care much for Gothic - 86' at all, but did enjoy both Salome's Last Dance - 88' and Lair Of The White Worm - 88', which is a hoot. Whore - 91' was a bit flat and even silly I found. I never knew how to place or feel Theresa Russell as an actress either. Is she a bad actress, that gets feigned as being good, or a good actress that just appears bad???
