I'm not fond of the style or animation in Sleeping Beauty. I was in my teens when it came out and devoted to the old hand painted style.
I finally made friends with this film when I was an au pair in Paris. One of my charges was a three year old boy. He had a book of sleeping beauty that he wanted to hear every night, but the character he referred to as The Bad Book Witch scared him to death and we had to be sure the book was closed with another book on top so she couldn't get out. I decided any character that could tap into tge imagination of a child with such power deserved another look. Her name in French got me too. She was called Malifique.
Later I had a Choose Your Own Adventure book based on Sleeping Beauty. It was a great language tool for 2nd graders . At the end of every two pages you were asked to choose what happened next. You had 4 choices , each with its own directions for how to find the next page. Again the kids took to it and I was reminded that the film and its characters were probably better than I thought.
I still don't care fir the animation and the score is one of Disney's weakest, even with lovely Mary Costa as Aurora
