but the racist hate for him was pathetic along with the claims that the show was attacking white men by having Kara in a relationship with him. I don't feel Kara and James made a good couple but the crap about it being something to encourage us to date black men and not white men couldn't have been further from the truth and interracial relationships really set some of those people over the edge and show how insecure they were. We saw the same hate with Zendaya when it was believed she was playing Mary Jane in 'Homecoming' and they were saying they were forcing an ugly black actress on them and Mary Jane was supposed to be hot. The CW Network don't have a good track record with relationships though and 'One Tree Hill' is one of the only shows I think could be praised for some of their relationships and Nathan and Hayley were very popular together and I liked Bethany Joy Lenz in that show and she is a very underrated actress and singer and I have got all her albums.
Yeah I recall seeing that on the Supergirl boards on IMDB back in S1, but I will say I also saw a lot of idiots creating smoke with no fire, I think on a few occasions I got called racist because I said I do not like James, even though everytime my point was he doent feel like he's an evolution of Jimmy, which had nothing to do with his race but how the character was written or how Mechad wasn't an obvious choice to play James, I know I have said it a few times before but Jimmy/James being taller than Superman is just wrong imo, also I never felt James was the loyal best friend Jimmy is often portrayed as being from what I recall atleast.
But you had not only the idiots doing the racist shit but morons also labelling anyone who wasn't supportive of the character as racist regardless of why they weren't fans, which just devolved the talks into racist bullshit over and over, much like we got with the whole Ghostbusters thing, heaven forbid you just don't like something, no you have to be a racist, misogynistic, sexist arsehole...I cop to the arsehole part but I am not the other 3, I just thought that film sucked and so did James, and now I think James is just uninteresting.
As for MJ in Spidey, I never cared mostly because I didn't know who Zendaya was, I thought Zendaya was who was playing Liz, and I just though ok fine that MJ I don't care she is gorgeous as MJ is meant to be, then when I realised my mistake I was like ok, only issue I then had was when the same people who moaned about Kirsten Dunst not being attractive enough to play MJ because MJ is meant to be a model but were fine with Zendaya I was like huh what? not saying Zendaya isn't attractive but to me I don't see a huge difference in how hot she is compared to Dunst back in the day...going to be honest though I am biased as I had a crush on Dunst since Small Soldiers, don't you judge me!...that and just my general groan and eye roll at Marvel's Zendaya is not Mary Jane, Mary Jane is not in the movie, cut to Zendaya's last scene and her friends call her MJ...fuck you Marvel, Fuck You!...otherwise im like whatever I don't care, well except for as I have said my odd pickiness about things like MJ has red hair dammit RED HAIR!!!, similar to Jimmy being shorter than Superman, that's all I want god dammit, I don't care if they are black, white, Chinese or Andorian just give MJ red hair and make Jimmy smaller than Clark IS IT TOO MUCH TO ASK!?
Yes. The ‘Supergirl’ IMDB Board had a lot of idiots writing on it and it was hard to take anything they had to say seriously ‘cause so many of them were sexists, racists and homophobes and it turned into a cesspool towards the end with a lot of the decent posters no longer writing posts due to them and looking at a few other forums with ‘Supergirl’ boards I noticed there are other people still discussing how bad it was and I wouldn’t be surprised if that was one of the main things that lead to the demise of the original IMDB Boards – that and some of the other boards I looked at were overtaken by idiots too and there was no room for any regular conversation anymore after they had run members off by the dozen and thankfully IMDB2 is nowhere near as bad as its predecessor with cyber bullies.
I agree with you that some people were unfairly mislabeled racists for not liking ‘Supergirl’s’ version of Jimmy Olsen and the choice of actor they got to play him and I saw a few members say they were not racists and listed their reasons why they didn’t like him just like you have done and it fell on deaf ears but there seemed to be some really extreme fans of the actor who didn’t like anybody saying he was nothing like Jimmy Olsen and it’s possible some of them may have even worked for the TV show when they were telling members “You will like him” or “you will accept it” and I thought one person in particular was very over the top. No. It never felt like he was a proper evolution of Jimmy and the reason I wasn’t fond of him from the start was ‘cause he was so serious and lacking Jimmy’s sense of humour.
The colour of the character’s skin was never the problem and it was his personality that was off and I have said before too the showrunners could have got a smaller African American actor to play Jimmy Olsen who was more like he was in the comics and other past adaptions but for whatever reason the people in charge didn’t want that and they made James Olsen somebody entirely different and then turned around and made Winn more of a Jimmy Olsen like character. A lot of things obviously didn’t turn out the way they planned with both characters and James being Kara’s love interest was quickly dropped after the first season and now it is like that never happened and I think Winn was originally meant to become the Toyman but too many fans liked him so they decided to keep him good and he ended up leaving and going to the future with Saturn Girl and Mon-El as we know.
As for ‘Ghostbusters (2016)’ I think there were villains on both sides and I remember a lot of people were very on board with a sequel or a remake until it was announced it was going to have a female cast and then there was a major tantrum from the sexists over it and ‘Ghostbusters (2016)’ got a lot of unfair hate long before it was released from people who were determined to see it fall and even took credit for it when it wasn’t a success and the sequel was drop. The same haters tried to do it with ‘Wonder Woman’ too but they were ultimately outnumbered by fans that had been waiting for a ‘Wonder Woman’ movie like myself and gave up at the end but ‘Ghostbusters (2016)’ was not that good and I don’t think everybody that didn’t like it was a sexist. I still would have preferred the movie we were going to get with Alyssa Milano, Eliza Dushku, Anna Farris and Paul Rudd being trained by the original team and believe that would have been far more successful especially with Dan and Harold writing it.
