Oh, of course, I forgot about Lasse Hallstrom, one of my favorites! But of the others, sadly I'm only familier with Bo Widerberg and Victor Sjöström, whose only work I know is his Hollywood work, and then his beautiful performance in Wild Strawberries. I know the other directors by reputation, but haven't seen their films.
It's clear that I have a lot of catching up to do. Thank you for compiling my aspire-to list.
I also forgot to point out to spiderwort that there are, and have been for some decades, several female directors in Sweden. Probably a higher proportion than in any other major film-making country.
