I would say it largely depends on who writes the movie and the majority of 'Red Sonja' comic books since the character has been reintroduced under Dynamite Entertainment under female writers like Gail Simone, Amy Chu and Marguerite Bennett have been extremely violent with tons of blood and gore in them and Red Sonja tearing people's heads off and breaking arms and Amy Chu's series has been awesome.

If the film is presented skillfully and sublimely with its visuals, ala Conan The Barbarian and Destroyer, it could work bloody wonders, as long as they make it bloody too....
