I generally assume movies watched at home are best watched when it's dark outside and it helps see the TV better in a darker room as if it's too bright outside there can be reflections on the TV etc which makes it harder to see and takes you out of the movie a bit. so while it does not have to be completely dark outside, if your in a room where it's too bright, watching TV is going to be a bit so-so unless that high level of brightness fades.
so naturally... I would assume most people will default to watching movies at nighttime.
